Prodigy

Prodigy is a set of tools for building ecommerce websites on WordPress. It provides small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and WordPress developers with all the essential features to manage online stores, including payment, shipping, fraud analysis, and inventory functionality along with connections to marketing services.

Challenge

A few years ago, Brian McGowan had a frustrating experience helping his clients manage their WooCommerce stores. To create a fully functional store and keep it running smoothly, merchants had to purchase many plugins and subscribe to several paid services. As a result, merchants received an expensive e-commerce platform that didn’t meet their needs. They also needed to hire developers who often had to go through the tedious process of manually configuring plugins to eliminate conflicts.

Brian wanted SMEs to be able to easily create and manage their own ecommerce websites. He also wanted to provide security for customers’ personal data and credit card information with the same product. Brian turned to the RubyGarage team with a request to implement his idea.

We were responsible for the following tasks:

  • Developing a high-leveled project roadmap to define general development requirements
  • Creating a fully functional platform that would eliminate the need to install multiple plugins
  • Simplifying the ecommerce platform management process for merchants
  • Implementing a PCI DSS compliant solution to ensure secure payment processing and save merchants from tax liabilities

Solutions

At our client’s request, our team carried out a comprehensive analysis of competitors and similar ecommerce services. This analysis gave us a better understanding of the development process and allowed us to choose the best technology stack.

To eliminate the need for merchants to pay for expensive additional services, our team developed a cross-domain ecommerce solution that includes a WordPress plugin and a hosting system.

We began with plugin development. When working on this product, we included features for inventory and order management to save merchants time and money. These features allow business owners to create and manage product catalogs as well as manage orders and eliminate the need to install separate plugins.

Next, the RubyGarage team created the Prodigy cloud platform, which acts as a hosting system, allowing merchants to avoid paying for hosting as a standalone service. This platform is also PCI compliant, ensuring a smooth and reliable payment process and eliminating the need to integrate third-party payment systems.

Providing a plugin and hosting system in one product allowed our development team to create an all-in-one WordPress solution.

We took the following steps:

  • Сonducted an in-depth analysis of competitors to choose the best technology stack and create an ecommerce service based on WordPress
  • Сreated a Prodigy WordPress plugin and Prodigy hosted system that work in conjunction to provide an all-in-one solution
  • Developed inventory functionality that enables merchants to manage products
  • Created an order feature so merchants can process orders in one place
  • Integrated the PCI compliant Prodigy cloud platform to free merchants from having to worry about tax liabilities

Results

RubyGarage helped Brian McGowan turn his vision into reality and create an all-in-one software solution for SMEs. Our development team created a set of tools to manage all processes related to product storage, order processing, and payment management in one convenient and straightforward SaaS platform. Today, Prodigy is gradually gaining popularity among end users who want to launch quickly and simplify the management of their ecommerce websites. In the near future, the Prodigy hosting system will be available for other applications via an open API.
